Miyan Tansen or Ramtanu Pandey ( 1506 – 1586 or 1589) is considered among the greatest composer-musici ans in Hindustani classical music. He was an extraordinarily gifted vocalist, known for a large number of compositions, and also an instrumentalist who popularized and improved the rabab .He was one of the Navaratnas at the court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. There's a saying when he used to sing Raga Deepak ( a peak summer Raga ) , fire used to appear in the surroundings and when he used to render Malhar , rain clouds appeared in scorching summer days . Raga Mian Ki malhar is a tribute to his talent .
