Every now and then we come across the cases of bullying and ragging in schools and colleges. It affects the mental and physical health of children. Usually children don’t disclose to their parents that they are being tortured (mentally or physically) by their class mates or seniors as they are threatened by them for not doing so.
In order to check the exact situation a survey was conducted in 150 schools in Mumbai and Thane by the Parents Teachers Association United Form (PTAUF), its results were shocking as 70 percent of students experience bullying in school surprisingly only 20 to 40 per cent disclosed it.
According to psychiatrists, bullying consists of three basic types of repeated abuse — emotional, verbal and physical. Verbal abuse could be on basis of race, religion, gender, sexuality or any physical disability. They advise parents to save their child from being tortured at school or colleges. To facilitate them here we bring some points that help them recognise the mental and physical status of their child:
1. If your child refuses maintaining an eye contact or they try to hide their injuries with long clothes.
2. They lock themselves and cry alone. If they are being tortured at school they will hesitate going there.
3. If your child starts complaining about nightmares or he/she screams or urinates while asleep, it’s time to confront them.
Recognise these symptoms and prevent your loved ones from being harassed!
