The latest buzz making way from the town has it that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to highlight concerns of manual scavengers engaged in cleaning excreta.
"We had sought an appointment with the Prime Minister and Aamir would be meeting him tomorrow morning," said the actor's spokesperson.
In a recent episode of his TV show Satyamev Jayate, the 47-year-old actor had focused on the life of over three lakh manual scavengers who do the work of cleaning excreta even today and are considered as untouchables by many in the society.
His show raises one social issue in every episode and different aspects of problems like female foeticide, child sexual abuse and domestic violence have been discussed. Last month, Aamir had made a presentation before a parliamentary panel on FDI in the pharmaceutical sector, after his show spoke about malpractices in the medical profession.
Our best wishes with the actor and we hope he succeeds in making the difference, after all we are all human beings and need to be treated as equals.
