To the surprise of all Maharashtra police arrested a software engineer for stealing an Electronic voting machine (EVM) from the collector's office in Mumbai. Hyderabad based Hari Prasad is the same person who once had exposed how the EVMs were tampered with, and now he has been alleged for stealing one.
How disgusting it is! Why do people tend to go for such crimes even after being so well educated? Is this why they gain knowledge, to utilize their minds in finding out ways that lead to destruction? Well there is no point putting any question forward as we will have to wait for the allegations to be proved on him.
After the arrest as was expected Hari Prasad's supporters said it was a tact played by the Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra governments to divert attention from the discrepancies he found.
The complaint against him was lodged on May 13. Hari seems to be unfazed and is going to file for bail on Thursday on medical grounds.
Around four months ago, during a TV show Prasad and his team of two foreign experts demonstrated how EVM's could be hacked by altering minute components which halted the elections in Andhra Pradesh and Election Commission was asked to look into the matter.
V.V. Rao, Prasad's colleague said that Prasad has been working to make EVMs tamper-proof along with him from past one and a half years.
The case seems to be very complicated as it is directly linked to politics and there are chances of Prasad being trapped. We can only hope that the true picture is revealed out soon and justice is made without any discrimination or violation of law and order.
