Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza is back from her injury and now her first priority is doubles for the next few months as she focuses on the 2012 Olympic Games!
There she hopes to win a medal for India in mixed-doubles. Returned from an injury, Sania expressed doubt about whether her body could take on the weight of a full-scale singles and doubles schedule at this point, because of which she has decided to train her guns on the team campaign.
The 25-year-old Indian saw her singles ranking drop to 111, following a knee injury for which she underwent surgery in Hyderabad in November. In doubles, while Sania has climbed to a career-high position of No. 7, she and Russian Elena Vesnina are ranked No. 4 as a team.
Meanwhile to make the cut for London it would be necessary for her to enter in top-60 singles ranking or a top-10 slot in doubles in June.
"Almost a decade of professional tennis has taken its toll on my body. As this is the Olympic year, where qualifying for London is a top priority, I may need to focus on keeping my doubles ranking in top-10 on 11th June, which is the cut-off date for qualification."
Well, we hope you will make the country’s name shine at the Olympics!
