This piece if news has definitely come as a relief for Spaniards, who were sad with Rafael Nadal pulling off from the US Open tournament due to injury. But it’s time to cheer you folks as Spain’s David Ferrer is leaving no stone unturned in putting up a brave face at the Grand Slamtournament.
Ferrer reached his fourth Grand Slam quarterfinal of 2012 on Tuesday when he beat Richard Gasquet 7-5, 7-6 (7/2), 6-4 in a rain-hit US Open last-16 tie. Ferrer, the top-ranked Spaniard in New York in the absence of Nadal, saw off 13th-seeded Frenchman Gasquet.
Now in the quarters, fourth-seed Ferrer will face either Serb eighth seed Janko Tipsarevic or Philipp Kohlschreiber, the German 19th seed, for a place in the semifinals. "The rain made it very difficult," said Ferrer. "But the fans have been great and I wanted to win it for them."
The 30-year-old Ferrer took a 7-1 career lead over Gasquet into the last-16 tie, having also triumphed at the same stage at the Australian Open this year. In the absence of former champion Rafael Nadal, he is his country's only hope of a Spanish champion this year.
However, only Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are talked of as tournament winners."I don't care. That's normal. Djokovic and Murray and Federer, they deserve the attention because they are amazing players. So it's not a problem for me. I'm trying do my best, do my best as possible," he said.
