Born to a Punjabi father Suresh Oberoi and Tamil mother Yashodhara Oberoi, Vivek studied from Mayo College Ajmer. He then headed for New York University to complete his masters in acting. With the entry in tinsel town with Ram Gopal Verma’s Company, Vivek bagged awards for best debut as well as best supporting actor. He got the best actor award with his perfect performance in smash hit Saathiya which turned out to be a grosser and collector at both Box Office and award ceremonies.
His role was notable in Omkara which was a sort of remake of Shakespear’s Othello and was praised, congratulated by Gulzar after seeing his performance. Later on, he bagged Kurban, Rakht Chakra and Mission Istanbul in his kitty.
Vivek Oberoi is not just a good actor but a good human being too. In 2006 he was awarded Red and White bravery awards for helping a village in getting it rebuild as if was severely hit by Tsunami. He is representing as spokesperson of anti tobacco campaign of World Health Organization. His generous works are endless, and few of them are Project Devi, Cancer Patients Aid Association and Banyan, which works towards rehabilitating mentally challenged homeless women. In all, Vivek has donated about Rs 3 million (Rs 30 lakh) and helped raise Rs 25 million.
Vivek and his family founded Yashodhara Oberoi Foundation.
