Dharmendra was born into a Punjabi family and spent his early life in the village called Sahnewal in Ludhiana. He was considered the most handsome actor in the Hindi film industry during his peak time. He has also been the 14th member in the Lok Sabha representing Bhartiya Janta Party from Bikaner in Rajasthan.
He has worked in several romantic Black and White films during the start of his career. In 1997 he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been honored upon with many awards. Dharmendra has appeared in more than 247 Hindi languages films till 2011.
